BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today offered prayers at the grave of Shaheed Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, the fearless frontline fighter of the July Uprising and spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha.

He reached the grave at 11:30 am beside the burial site of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, near the Dhaka University Central Mosque.

The BNP Acting Chairman left his Gulshan residence around 10:40 am to pay tribute.

Tarique Rahman prayed for the eternal peace of Shaheed Osman Hadi’s soul and later offered prayers at the grave of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

Senior party leaders, including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed and Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, were present on the occasion.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan, DU White Panel Convener Professor Morshed Hasan Khan, Bangladesh Open University Vice-Chancellor Professor ABM Obaidul Islam and National University Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Lutfar Rahman, along with a number of DU teachers and officials, were also present.

A significant presence of BNP activists and leaders of its affiliated organizations was observed in the adjacent Shahbagh area.

Sharif Osman bin Hadi, an aspiring candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, sustained a gunshot wound to the head on Box Culvert Road in the capital‍‍`s Purana Paltan area on December 12.

He was initially treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Evercare Hospital following a decision by his family.

As his condition deteriorated, he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on December 15 for advanced treatment. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital on December 18. His body was brought back to the country the following evening.

His Namaz-e-Janaza was held at 2:30 pm on December 20 at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building. Manik Mia Avenue, the two fields on the southern side of the Parliament building and surrounding areas were flooded with mourners, somber and grieving, as they paid their final tributes.
